Nicolas Nabonne développe une approche exploratoire ancrée dans des thématiques sociétales telles que l'anthropocentrisme, la violence et notre relation à l'environnement. L'artiste revisite de façon ironique ces problématiques à travers la peinture, la sculpture, le ready-made et l’installation. Son travail oscille de façon ludique entre le corps et l’objet, l'artefact et la nature, le végétal et le minéral, l'humain et l’animal. Cette esthétique hybride et ambivalente met sous tension la pensée véhiculée avec la matérialité de l’œuvre.

D’autre part, le plasticien joue avec les mots dans le choix du titre de l’œuvre, avec une volonté de lier la plasticité au langage. Cette approche expérimentale confère à son travail une dimension conceptuelle. Celle-ci repose sur un raisonnement triangulaire dans lequel le sujet, le processus de réalisation et la forme de l’œuvre convergent. Entre tragique et comique, chaque œuvre est conçue comme un contresens, laissant à chacun le soin de prendre le niveau de gris dans cet humour teinté de noir.
